What Is Conscious Health?

Conscious Health is Dr. Ashby’s physician-led approach to identifying and treating the root causes of chronic illness — combining lifestyle medicine with functional testing, advanced cardio-metabolic and inflammation testing to create a clear, science-based path to healing.

Instead of simply managing symptoms with prescriptions, we evaluate your complete risk profile and craft a holistic care plan designed to help you heal, naturally.

Your First Step: “Know Your Risk” Consultation

All new patients begin with a comprehensive intake called the Know Your Risk Consult.

This can include:

  • Deep clinical history + risk factor analysis
  • Cardiovascular & metabolic screening
  • Toxic load (heavy metals, mold, Lyme)
  • Gut function, hormone balance, and nutritional status
  • Advanced lab testing as needed

This process involves up to 6 hours of clinical time, including intake, several hours of face-to-face consulting, testing review, and follow-up.

📍 Available exclusively to Florida residents

Heart & Inflammation Markers

An enzyme linked to inflammation inside blood vessel walls.

Why test it: High activity suggests “silent” artery inflammation, which can make plaque more unstable and raise heart attack or stroke risk.

A blood test that shows how much inflammation is happening in your body.

Why test it: Higher levels mean higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.

A marker that shows how well your blood vessels can relax and widen.

Why test it: High ADMA shows  damage in vessel lining that can lead to stiff arteries, raising heart risk.

“Rusty cholesterol.” It’s LDL cholesterol that’s been damaged by oxidation.

Why test it: Oxidized LDL is much more harmful than plain LDL — it sticks to artery walls and triggers inflammation.

Cholesterol Particles & Patterns

How many “bad cholesterol trucks” are circulating in your blood.

Why test it: More trucks = Higher LDL Particles means higher chance they’ll get stuck in artery walls.

Small, dense cholesterol particles are sneaky and more dangerous.

Why test it: They easily slip into blood vessel walls, increasing plaque buildup risk.

Mid-sized LDL particles.

Why test it: More medium and small LDL particles raise risk compared to big, fluffy LDL.

“Good cholesterol boats” that are bigger and stronger.

Why test it: Large HDL helps clear cholesterol more effectively, protecting your heart.

The “type” of LDL you carry.

Why test it: Pattern A (larger LDL) is less risky, Pattern B (small dense LDL) is more dangerous.

The average size of your LDL cholesterol particles.

Why test it: Larger particles are safer, smaller ones raise heart risk.

The “address tag” on every LDL particle — tells how many “bad trucks” you have.

Why test it: ApoB gives a clear picture of heart risk, often better than regular cholesterol.

Metabolism & Circulation

A substance made when your gut bacteria break down certain foods (like red meat and eggs).

Why test it: High activity suggests “silent” artery inflammation, which can make plaque more unstable and raise heart attack or stroke risk.

A byproduct from protein breakdown in your body.

Why test it: Too much can damage blood vessels and increase stroke or heart disease risk.

Tells how well your body responds to insulin (the hormone that moves sugar into cells).

Why test it: High ADMA shows  damage in vessel lining that can lead to stiff arteries, raising heart risk.

Nutrients

A vitamin needed for energy, brain health, and making red blood cells.

Why test it: Low B12 can cause fatigue, nerve problems, brain fog, and anemia.

The “sunshine vitamin” for bone strength, immunity, and mood.

Why test it: Deficiency is common and linked to weak bones, low immunity, and more inflammation.

A measure of the healthy fats in your red blood cells.

Why test it: Higher omega-3 levels protect against heart disease, inflammation, and brain decline.

Kidney Function

A number that shows how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood.

Why test it: Lower GFR means weaker kidney function. Kidneys are key for blood pressure, detox, and overall health.
